Neal Oza

Neal OzaNeal N. Oza obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Northwestern University in December 2014.  While at NU, and in addition to his research, Neal found time to participate in various leadership, outreach, improvisational, and athletic activities. These include MGLC, GLC, OSA, SPG Improv, and various intramural sports teams.  Prior to pursuing his doctorate, Neal spent several years researching Lysine-based dendrimer growth with Craig Hawker at the UCSB Materials Research Laboratory.  During that time, he would also spend afternoons, evenings, and weekends teaching local students various math and science subjects as a tutor for Santa Barbara Tutoring Services.  Neal graduated with high honors from University of California, Santa Barbara with his BS in Computer Engineering in 2004.

Research:

Neal pursued development of technologies for applications in quantum information processing.  More specifically, he developed a real-time entangled-photon polarimeter capable of measuring a polarization-encoded entangled-photon state nine times per second.  Neal also developed a dual-in, dual-out, single-photon switch capable of routing photons while preserving the polarization encoding of the qubit.  More recently, Neal designed and built a system to explore higher-dimensional Hilbert spaces utilizing the switch.  Along with Sammy, Neal has successfully demonstrated the generation and measurement of time-bin-entangled qutrit (d = 3) and ququat (d = 4) states.
